MACON, Ga. — Witnesses are describing a chaotic and violent confrontation that ended with a Bibb County deputy fatally shooting a man who charged at him with a screwdriver at a Macon gas station early Thursday morning.

Zachary Ward, 28, died at the scene after the shooting at the Circle K at 4775 Chambers Road just after midnight, according to the Bibb County Coroner's Office. Ward lived on Chambers Road, the same street where the shooting occurred.

Alexis Blunt told 13WMAZ she watched the entire incident unfold from her car. She said Ward was acting aggressively toward customers — including her — before the deputy even arrived.

"He walked up to my car, and he was like, 'B---h, what are you looking at? F--- you,'" Blunt said. "And he flipped the bird at me."
