STATEWIDE -- While in the midst of the government shutdown, Governor Janet Mills and other officials met in Auburn on Thursday, October 30, to publicly announce the new funding for anti-hunger programs.

"It is our country's most important food assistance and nutrition program," said Governor Mills.

Earlier this month, the USDA informed states that SNAP benefits wouldn't be distributed come November 1 due to the government shutdown. A benefit, Governor Mills says, that around 170,000 Mainers rely on (12.5% of people in Maine). Of those people, around 75% of those households include a working adult, and around 33% of those households have children.
