PERRY, Ga. — Water woes are mounting for Perry residents after the city raised its water rates by 7 percent this year. The new base rate is $5.15, plus an extra 50 cents for every additional 100 gallons used. For many residents, the increasing bills are becoming difficult to manage.

Robert Russell, who has lived in Perry for 40 years, shared his frustration.

“It gets depressing,” Russell said.

Russell recalled a time when $500 was enough to pay his entire city service bill for a year. Now, he says, $500 barely covers two months. He called living in Perry “really expensive.”

Russell criticized the city’s monthly city service bill for being confusing because it covers more than just water. The bill also includes sewage, gas, solid waste, stormwater, and fire protection charges.
