Freedom of India from the British colonial rule posed new challenges at the time of independence as India was faced with many problems that needed immediate attention and resolution without wasting time.

British left India but imposed a cost and that was two entities- British India that was directly governed by them and the Princely States that was governed by them in terms of special arrangement with the rulers of these entities. Once the Independence Act enabled the independence of India, it was also accompanied by the partition of India due to the divide and rule imposed by the colonialists leading to the creation of Pakistan. It was part of the Great Game that was being played to checkmate the rise of India.
