LONGVIEW, Texas — A Kilgore man who tried to kidnap a woman on an East Texas hiking trail in August 2024 received five years' probation this week.

Jelan Deaaron Armond Williams pleaded guilty to attempt to commit kidnapping Thursday in the 124th District Court. He then received five years of deferred adjudication probation, according to judicial records.

Williams was arrested on Aug. 16, 2024 in connection with a reported attack on Paul Boorman Trail in Longview. The victim said a man, later identified as Williams, approached and grabbed her from behind, attempting to cover her mouth, but was able to break free and escape.

People nearby were able to locate Williams shortly after, and he was detained by officers.
