Following a hike to wastewater rates over the summer, the city is moving forward with an increase to water rates officials had said earlier in the year would be forthcoming.
This is the first time Santa Fe has moved to raise rates since 2013. City officials have said the increase is needed to keep up with inflation as well as to pay for several ongoing and future infrastructure projects, including upgrades to the Canyon Road Water Treatment Plant, repairs to the Nichols and McClure reservoirs and the San Juan-Chama return flow pipeline project.
Sponsored by Councilors Carol Romero-Wirth, Amanda Chavez and Jamie Cassutt, the ordinance would change the structure for city water rates starting with a $2 increase in February and additional increases each January through 2030.
