The Pennsylvania Bar Association has judged multiple PennLive journalists and their stories as among the state’s best when it comes to excellence in legal journalism.

The PBA media awards, now in their 46th year, honor reporting that enhances public understanding of the legal system, highlights needed reforms and educates citizens about the roles of law, courts and law enforcement.

PennLive’s Charles Thompson tied for first place in the ‘Newspapers with 30,000 or More Circulation’ category for his coverage of the legal and emotional fallout from a fraternity hazing death at Penn State. The winning entry entitled, “ PSU hazing death ends with jail time for frat leaders, but no closure for Piazza family,” chronicled the legal aftermath of the tragic death of Penn State student Tim Piazza
