Chattanooga, TN (WDEF)The Salvation Army of Greater Chattanooga has launched an emergency food campaign titled “Feed Hope. Share Love.”, responding to a dramatic increase in local food-assistance requests.

Kendall Hudson, Development Manager for The Salvation Army of Greater Chattanooga, says the organization is seeing the impact of rising food insecurity firsthand.

“We are definitely seeing an uptick in people needing food services, and with food insecurity on the rise, our hope is to reach and help as many people as possible,” Hudson said.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 13 percent of U.S. households experienced food insecurity last year, with nearly 18 percent of households with children facing challenges putting meals on the table.
