STOUGHTON, Wis. (WKOW) -- Stoughton held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new veterinary hospital Thursday.

Stoughton Veterinary Services is moving to a larger facility, more than tripling its current square footage. The expanded hospital aims to better serve the Stoughton community by providing quicker care for pets and offering urgent care services, helping reduce the burden on local emergency rooms.

"We should be able to see them much more quickly, and with urgent care, it's really about serving the community at large," said Matt Watrud, managing veterinarian at Stoughton Veterinary Services. "Not having to go into the ER and taking some of that burden off the emergency rooms will help them as well, I hope."

The new veterinary hospital is expected to open in spring or summer of next
