WILSONVILLE, Ore. (KPTV) - Sunshine Division is expanding its programs to prepare for looming SNAP cuts, but even packing thousands of boxes a week, the nonprofit fears it’s a drop in the bucket.
“We know this is just the tip of the iceberg,” said Kyle Camberg, Sunshine Division executive director.
At Sunshine Division’s Wilsonville warehouse, volunteers have worked nonstop since learning last week that nearly 800,000 Oregonians will lose federal food assistance this weekend due to the government shutdown.
“We’re doing our best to immediately and rapidly respond,” Camberg said.
The nonprofit’s distribution list was already full, but with an extra push of food drive donations, they’ve kicked it into high gear.
They’re delivering home boxes to 650 houses a week, up from 450. That list f
