KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knoxville community coming together to remember the life of KPD Lieutenant Gordon Gwathney.
Gwathney died while on a hunting trip in North Dakota earlier this week and neighbors held a vigil Thursday evening for the community to gather and honor him.

It happened at the YWCA in east Knoxville, a part of the city that knew him well.
“He was just one of those people that was constantly looking to improve everybody, uplift everybody that was around him,” Captain Nevin Long with the Knoxville Police Department said. “You know, it was never about him. It was always what he could do for the community, for his family, for the officers that were in his charge.“
