LAFAYETTE — Colin Monroe couldn’t have asked for a more memorable first career varsity goal.

As the threat of overtime loomed in Thursday’s Class 4A boys soccer state tournament game against Northridge, the Centaurus sophomore received an open look in the 68th minute and capitalized on it with a goal-scoring shot, giving the Warriors their ultimate 2-1 lead and a first-round victory.

“It was incredible,” Monroe said of his game-winning goal. “I’ve been wanting to play so much for the whole season. I finally got my chance to prove myself, and I scored.”

The No. 7 seed Warriors were shorthanded against No. 26 Northridge due to illnesses and injuries, but Centaurus’ depth, namely Monroe, stepped up when needed.
