Both sides of the aisle clash over government shutdown

VIRGINIA (CBS19 NEWS) — Five weeks into the federal government shutdown, the stalemate in Washington is hitting home, threatening food assistance and paychecks for hundreds of thousands of Virginians.

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine said negotiations are underway to reopen the government, but warned that the prolonged impasse is taking a growing economic toll on families across the commonwealth.
