MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District released its 2024 PFAS testing results, showing low and stable levels.

PFAS are human-made compounds that take a long time to break down. The district tests wastewater, treated water, and biosolids. According to the report, the 2024 levels are consistent with amounts found in groundwater and surface water.

"As a clean water utility, we are committed to understanding our role in the PFAS cycle and contributing to data on this important issue," said Martye Griffin, director of ecosystem services. "These results underscore our commitment to transparency, partnership with our communities, and stewardship of our shared resources."
