BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The USS Kidd is expected to return to Baton Rouge by Spring 2026.
In a release, officials said that the USS Kidd historic ship is set to be released from the drydock berth on Nov. 11, or Veterans Day. It was removed from the Baton Rouge berth in April 2024 and taken to a shipyard in Houma to get a full overhaul. Over the 14 months, the deteriorated steel was removed from the ship and replaced.
The USS Kidd was known for its exploits during World War II. It was commissioned in 1943 and was designated a national landmark in 1986. The USS Kidd Veteran Museum pays tribute to Louisiana veterans of all service branches.
The museum will remain open during the time that the ship is away, with reduced entrance fees.
