ST. CLOUD — It was perhaps an unlikely section final, at least at the beginning of the season.

Minnewaska, young and unheralded, had a bunch of multi-sport athletes, but not much of a reputation in volleyball.

Albany, coming off a state appearance, but losing 12 seniors and two scholarship athletes, was not on everyone’s radar, either.

But, Minnewaska and Albany battled Thursday before a standing-room-only crowd at Apollo High School, with the Huskies prevailing over the previously unbeaten Lakers.

Albany is back in the state Class AA tournament after beating MInnewaska 25-23, 25-23, 17-25, 25-19 before an overflow crowd of 1,300 in the Section 6AA final.
