KOUNTZE, Texas — A small group gathered Thursday night in Hardin County for a candlelight vigil, honoring the lives lost to domestic violence and calling attention to what advocates describe as an ongoing epidemic.

Wooden silhouettes stood in silent tribute to victims as part of the event organized by the Hardin County Crime Victims Assistance Center. Advocates say their goal is to raise awareness and remind the community that help is available.

“It takes all of us who are passionate about it and who have a heart for it to make that change,” said Autumn Ruggles, an advocate with the center.

The solemn evening included candlelight and a moment of silence to remember victims no longer with us. Ruggles said the vigil serves both as remembrance and outreach.
