DES MOINES, Iowa —
A Des Moines mother is pleading for justice after her 16-year-old daughter was shot in the face Sunday — allegedly by the mother’s fiancé, who is still on the run.
“You hurt my child, and I need justice,” said Jacorra Jones, whose daughter, Mya Buie, remains in the hospital awaiting multiple facial reconstruction surgeries.
Police have identified the suspect as 28-year-old Kevin Fajardo . Investigators say Fajardo shot Buie inside their Hubbell Avenue apartment before fleeing the scene. Police warn that he is dangerous and urge anyone with information to call 911.
Jones said Fajardo appeared to be under the influence before the shooting and that she told her daughter to get the family’s car keys when chaos erupted.
“When she goes down, I just hear a commotion,”
