The Pittsburgh Public Schools Board of Directors held a special meeting Thursday night to hear an in-depth presentation on how the district plans to roll out a plan to eliminate nine schools.

Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Wayne Walters and other district leaders spent nearly two hours presenting the Future-Ready Facilities Implementation Plan to the board. Advertisement

Full implementation would begin at the start of the 2026-27 school year.

“We admit openly that we have a district laced with inequities, where we have a system of haves and have-nots. And as the superintendent, my job is to make sure that if education is truly the equalizer, that we can do those things to equalize opportunities and experiences for all of our children,” Walters told Pittsburg
