GOP’s voucher fetish opens door to referendums

As opposition mounted against the Northwest Allen Schools referendum, I had one question for opponents. Did you pull the R lever during the latest state elections? If you did, then keep in mind that R = referendum.

The Republican state legislature keeps spending millions on the “school choice” program, giving your tax dollars to the rich so they can send their kids to private schools. Current spending for the program is $497 million. That is money that is not going to public schools, so the school systems must beg for more money.

Is it a Catch-22 for property owners because the state gives us a tax break, then with the expansion of the voucher program, school systems take that break away in the form of higher taxes through referendums? What
