HOOD COUNTY, Texas — Residents in an unincorporated part of Hood County rejected a plan to form a new town to impose noise regulations to quiet a crypto mine next door.
The mine has been the subject of frequent criticism from some nearby residents , who described the noise from the facility as loud, grating and unrelenting.
"Some people say it sounds like sitting at the tail end of a runway, but the plane never leaves," said Danny Lakey, a neighbor who can see the mine from his back porch and has helped lead the incorporation effort.
"If we incorporate the city, we can set noise regulations. If we can set noise regulations, then they’ll have to live by them and they’ll have to be a good neighbor," he said.
