Haynes quarterback Trent Helwig has missed time this season battling a variety of nagging injuries.
But when the senior has been in the lineup, he’s been hard to stop.
Helwig threw for four touchdowns and ran for two more to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 47-35 win against Patrick Taylor to clinch at least a share of the District 9-3A championship at Joe Yenni Stadium on Thursday night.
“This is our second time ever winning district,” said Helwig, who threw for 133 yards and ran for 171 yards and also scored on two two-point conversions. “It’s really special, especially my senior year. It means a lot.”
While Haynes (5-4, 3-1) lost to Young Audiences Charter in Week 8, it does not count in the district standings, as the Yaks are not eligible for district or postseason honors until after c
