Ysleta High knew that to win a District 1-4A, Division I title against Riverside its offense would have to be almost perfect.
Quarterback Rodrigo Martinez and that offense threw out "almost." Scoring touchdowns the first nine times they had the ball, the Indians kept the scoreboard spinning and eventually won 61-50 to stay unbeaten on the season and clinch a district championship.
Riverside fell to 6-1 in district and 7-2 overall and will finish as the No. 2 seed heading to the playoffs in two weeks.
After Ysleta too, a 61-43 lead with 2:54 remaining, Martinez had five passing touchdowns, 212 passing yards, with three rushing touchdowns and 62 rushing yards.
The Indians needs most of that to hold off a Riverside team that was almost as explosive, as Ranger quarterback Carlos Rojas III
