VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Charges against a man shot by Virginia Beach Police back in June will move forward a district court judge decided Thursday.

Shaun Marlar, 18, was charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer and three counts of brandishing a firearm back on June 4, 2025.

It was on that day officers were called to the AAAA Self Storage in Haygood for reports of a man pointing a handgun at someone.

When a pair of police officers arrived, they soon were confronted with Marlar, pointing what looked like a gun at them.

Thats when they opened fire, with a bullet striking Marlar in the abdomen.

Ultimately, the gun Marlar was holding was not real, according to police. Rather, it was a replica.
