The Delhi Police have claimed that the Delhi riots that happened in 2020 were part of an orchestrated "regime change operation" rather than a spontaneous act of public outrage.

CNN-News18 reported that the claim was made in a 177-page affidavit that the police is going to file before the Supreme Court , in response to the bail pleas of student activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam among others.

Both Khalid and Imam have been imprisoned for over five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The affidavit asserts that investigators have gathered ocular, documentary, and technical evidence suggesting that the riots were a "deep-rooted conspiracy" aimed at undermining India's sovereignty.
