The Supreme Court, on Friday, while hearing a case related to stray dogs, ordered the chief secretaries of all states to appear in court. The bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta rejected the plea seeking exemption for the chief secretaries of states/union territories from appearing in person.
Justice Nath said, "When we ask the chief secretaries to file an affidavit, they remain silent on it. There is no respect for our order. So fine, let them come. We will deal with them."
The court has ordered the chief secretaries to appear in person on November 3. Earlier, on October 27, the court had sought responses from the chief secretaries of all states except West Bengal and Telangana.
