BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football ensured it would be sitting out one of the busiest coaching cycles in the past decade by locking coach Curt Cignetti up to his second contract extension in as many years.
The school formally announced the deal on Oct. 16 with Cignetti telling fans he wanted to retire as a Hoosier in a video posted to social media.
How did the extension come together? Per a source with knowledge of the situation, it was a drama-free process that unfolded over a 10-day span and had less to do with a specific job opening up as it did Cignetti's continued success.
Why Curt Cignetti’s latest extension was a simple market adjustment
Heading into the Maryland game, Cignetti was tied for the third-best winning percentage (.844) among active FBS head coaches, behind only Ohio
