An evangelical Andrew Forrest implored Fortescue shareholders to stay on board with green energy trials that “probably will fail”, following a litany of costly setbacks in recent months.

Mr Forrest also doesn’t get “the fuss” about critical minerals. He declared there was “nothing rare about rare earths”, despite Fortescue touting a rare earths project in Brazil and the billionaire’s own private mining company spending big to dig up the coveted subset of critical minerals.

‘Bulletproof’ plan B

Speaking at the company’s annual general meeting, which was briefly delayed by a shareholder passing out, Mr Forrest said his iron ore miner and green energy aspirant has “bulletproof plan B’s” for when its “crazy plan A’s” go up in smoke.
