Middletown should hold a public hearing on library plan
At the Oct. 20 Middletown Town Council meeting, politicians’ anger at the audience emerged during discussion on a new library. They harshly dismissed a gentleman’s insightful and heartfelt appeal for a referendum and hearings for a new library.
The Middletown Center-development-agreement with investors in late 2024 is the root of this kerfuffle. Investors originally supported a project including a library, but it is not in their current plans, so the existing library has to be moved. In October 2024, Middletown bought a $3.3 million building for the new library. It needs $8 million in modifications. Politicians' unwelcome plan to move Pottsy Field for the investors also remains unresolved.
