The opioid crisis gripping America isn’t fading — it’s changing. Recent national data show opioid use disorder diagnoses among the commercially insured jumped nearly 40% between 2021 and 2024. While fatal overdoses have slightly declined, this rise in addiction makes one thing clear: The epidemic is evolving, not ending.

In Indiana, we’ve witnessed this tragedy firsthand, from small towns along the Ohio River to the neighborhoods of Indianapolis. For over a decade, our law enforcement, health workers, and community leaders have fought to hold those responsible accountable and to bring relief to those battling addiction.

As Indiana’s 43rd attorney general, I took up that fight, leading the lawsuits that secured our state’s share of the national opioid settlements.
