On Oct. 24, at the third-annual trunk-or-treat event at the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple, 200 Civic Center Drive, in Charleston, about 400 kids and family members made the rounds past about 35 displays.

Natalie Pickens, 9, of Charleston, dressed as Egyptian queen Cleopatra, complete with gold accents and blue flowing robes. Her mother said she was playing against her type.
