The reigning Interscholastic League of Honolulu water polo player of the year is suing his school and the league in federal court after he was deemed ineligible to play his senior season.
Zavior Ward, 18, attends Hawaii Baptist Academy but played for Le Jardin Academy in 2024 because HBA doesn’t have a water polo program. Le Jardin’s coach let Ward practice with the team all season as a nonofficial team member but he did not play.
The ILH water polo season started Sept. 2. A status conference in the case is scheduled for Monday in U.S. District Court.
U.S. District Judge Micah W.J. Smith denied Ward’s temporary restraining order Oct. 8 that would have allowed him to play the last part of the season.
