In rural Kenya, Alima, a widowed mother, lives with her children in a cramped and crumbling mud house.

This house is no longer enough for me and my children. We don’t all fit on the bed, so the children sleep beside the fireplace, on sheets laid on the floor. The smoke irritates our throats and eyes. When it rains, it leaks and everything gets soaked. My heart is very troubled because of how we suffer, but what can I do? The little I earn from working on the farms barely covers my children’s basic needs.” - Alima

Despite her struggles, Alima kept holding onto hope.

“I prayed constantly. I told God, “Look at this house, you are my only hope. Lord, do a miracle, and give us a better place to live, because by myself, I can’t.” – Alima
