It looked like the swans were skating.

Which, I guess, they kinda were. They were trying to walk on the thin ice of a pond just east of Strathmore and though their huge feet were distributing their weight enough to keep them from falling through — mostly — they weren’t doing much for traction. A couple of them were trying to walk on the ice — lift their feet, step ahead, put the foot down — but that just led to several butt-plants.

A few of them, though, figured out that pushing off on one foot and sliding on the other got them further with each step and kept them balanced. Kinda like, ya know, skating.
