If Trump’s Executive Order on Birthright Citizenship takes effect, birth certificates will no longer be sufficient proof of U.S. citizenship for Social Security Number (SSN) applications. Applicants will need to show that at least one parent was a U.S. citizen or had lawful immigration status at the time of birth.

The US administration requested the Supreme Court to review President Trump’s executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship. But it was ruled unconstitutional by the Boston-based 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which sided with Democratic-led states and immigrant rights advocates. Similarly, the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a nationwide ruling against the order.
