After a rough start to their season, things looked a bit brighter for the Miami Dolphins last week as they earned a dominant victory against the Atlanta Falcons. A large part of that success came on defense as the Dolphins held the Falcons to just 213 total offensive yards and 10 points – and for his performance anchoring that strong defensive effort, Dolphins' linebacker Jordyn Brooks has been named the Week 8 AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Brooks was crucial to Miami's defensive success in the win, as he tallied 10 tackles (including three tackles for loss) and one sack in the Dolphins' 34-10 win on the road. Brooks was the only player in the NFL to record at least 10 tackles and a sack in Week 8, and currently leads the league with 85 total tackles this season.

Brooks, who is currently in his sixth year in the NFL and second season, has earned his first Defensive Player of the Week award with the selection. He is also just the fourth linebacker for the Dolphins to earn such an accolade in the past 20 seasons (2006-25) – he joins Kyle Van Noy (Week 13, 2020), Bradley Chubb (Week 15, 2023), and Tyrel Dodson (Week 17, 2024) on that list.

Brooks also earned himself a spot amongst the elite former Texas Tech players in the NFL as he became the fourth former Texas Tech player to win a Defensive Player of the Week award in the league. The other three former Red Raiders to earn the award are Pro Football Hall of Famer Zach Thomas (three-time winner), Marcus Coleman, and Curtis Jordan.
