JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - The United States and China agreed on a deal involving soybeans, with China set to purchase millions of metric tons from the U.S. annually.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that China will purchase 12 million metric tons of soybeans from now until January. Starting in 2026, they will purchase 25 million metric tons annually.
Jesse Flye, a soybean farmer in Jonesboro, said farmers have been following the development closely and view the deal as potentially positive if it remains enforced.
“The key piece of this will be the enforcement side of it,” Flye said. “In the trade one deal, soybeans were in it, and they started buying soybeans from us at that point and then when the administration left the White House, and the new one came in. They didn’t enfo
