SELMA, N.C. (WNCN) — A man was arrested and charged early Friday morning in the deadly hit-and-run incident that took place Wednesday evening in Selma.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, troopers charged 44-year-old Ronald Mayo with felony hit and run involving a death in Johnston County. Troopers said Mayo was taken into custody at a residence off of U.S. Highway 70 without incident.

Mayo is accused of killing a line worker repairing low-hanging power lines in Selma around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday on Live Oak Church Road near Carmil Drive.

Troopers said Mayo was driving a flatbed tow truck hauling a sewer cleaner truck when they said he disregarded a stop signal and drove through the scene, where the truck got entangled with one of the lines and caused one technician to f
