County Engineer Walter Schwarz inspected the “old La Center span,” and determined that all the steel is in place and is ready to be riveted. Schwarz said that if work continues “as rapidly as in the past,” the bridge would be ready for traffic within a week or 10 days.

Condemnation proceedings began on properties in downtown Vancouver for an Interstate 5 cloverleaf linking the freeway to downtown and Highway 14. The state declared five properties on lower Main and Washington streets “necessary for public use and establishment of Primary State Highway No. 1.” Condemned properties included Washington Mutual Savings Bank, First Federal Savings, Corder Motor Company and the Vancouver Laundry.
