James City County supervisors gave the seal of approval for a new official county seal on Tuesday.
The new seal will be used in formal applications such as legal documents and will not replace the current county logo, said the county. Both designs will be used as part of the county’s brand, with the existing logo remaining on exterior signs, print documents and additional applications.
The redesign was created by county staff to offer a more formal option in addition to the more modern logo design. The new seal — a modified version of the seal that was replaced in 2012 depicts the Susan Constant, which was the largest of three ships that arrived in Jamestown carrying the first permanent English colonists.
The ship is inside a circle with the words “Jamestown 1607” beneath the water line
