Mayor Eric Adams will announce Friday a major investment in the NYPD that will increase the number of uniformed officers by 5,000 — bringing the total number of New York’s finest to highest level in 20 years, The Post has learned.
The much-needed investment will bring the number of NYPD officers to 40,000 by Fiscal Year 2029.
The phase-in will begin in July 2026 with 300 officers, growing to 2,500 in July 2027, and increasing to 5,000 in July 2028.
