“Vayomer Adonai el Avram – and the Lord said unto Abram (Genesis 12:1) ... Lech Lecha m’artzecha u’mimoladetcha u’mibait avicha – Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto the land that I will show thee.”
And why did God call to Abram? It is a natural question to ask. The great Biblical commentator, Nachmanides (1194 to 1270) – the Ramban – asked the same question. The Torah never tells us.
Before God communicated with Noah, we learn Noah was righteous in his generations and walked with God. Before the Lord called to Moses, we learn he had turned aside to see the burning bush.
However, with Abram – the first Jew on Earth – the Torah only tells us Abram’s father was Terach, he had two brothers Nahor and Haran, a nephew Lot, a wife named Sarai an
