No, we aren’t electing a president on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Or a congressional representative, governor, U.S. senator, or even mayor. The midterms aren’t for another year.

But with hugely critical local races that promise to set Duluth’s direction and tone for a decade or more to come, not only is it impossible to overstate the importance of voting in this election, it’s safe to say anything short of a robust turnout would be majorly disappointing.

We’re electing four Duluth City Council and four Duluth School Board members; plus, we’re deciding whether tenants in Duluth get a new “tool” to force fixes to rental units, as supporters of the “right-to-repair” ordinance that’s on Tuesday’s ballot state it.
