Chennai: K A Sengottaiyan, one of the senior-most leaders having been associated with the AIADMK since its founding by M G Ramachandran in 1972, was on Friday expelled from the party, a day after he met rebel leaders T T V Dhinakaran and O Panneerselvam and called for unification of the party.

By sacking Sengottaiyan for demanding that the rebels like V K Sasikala, TTV, and OPS be taken back into AIADMK, Edappadi K Palaniswami has sent a stern message not just to the trio but also the BJP, which has been subtly pushing for accommodating the rebels.

Palaniswami, during his meeting with Shah in September, categorically told him that he won’t encourage any suggestions for a compromise with the trio and suggested the BJP should not interfere in the internal affairs of the AIADMK.
