DES MOINES, Iowa — Attorney General Brenna Bird has called on federal agencies to investigate possible manipulations of the Renewable Fuel Standard Program by small refiners.
Bird addressed a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, and Securities and Exchange Commission, urging them to look into the matter.
Bird emphasized the importance of renewable fuels for American energy security. She explained that the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) mandates refiners to blend renewable fuels based on their gasoline production. Small refineries facing economic hardship can receive exemptions from these requirements.
