A beloved physician and advocate for health care in Fort Erie has died.

In a news release Thursday, the Town of Fort Erie and Mayor Wayne Redekop announced the death of Dr. David Henry, a family doctor who practised in the community for decades.

“David was unique in so many ways, most importantly for his love of Fort Erie and the many patients that he cared for with compassion over the decades,” said the statement.

The doctor, who died Wednesday at age 80, was also recognized for his “passionate defence of maintaining services at Douglas Memorial.”

“He was a champion for health care in our community and a shining example of how one can serve a community while living life to its fullest,” the statement said.
