A central Iowa high school received more than $30,000 for finishing in the top 10 of T-Mobile's Friday Night 5G Lights competition.
Newton High School, located roughly 35 miles east of Des Moines, finished eighth in the cell phone company's competition to see which small town high school has the most community support for their local football team.
More than 2,100 high schools in towns with populations of 150,000 or fewer across the country entered the Friday Night 5G Lights competition. Fans could vote daily on T-Mobile's website, and Dierks High School in Dierks, Arkansas, won the $1 million upgrade to its sports stadium, a renovated weight room and an all-expenses-paid trip to the SEC Championship Game.
Newton received 271,000 votes, even receiving support from Iowa Gov. Kim R
