Akron Mayor Shammas Malik said the city is working on a plan to help residents who are temporarily losing SNAP benefits during the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Malik told the Beacon Journal that his administration will bring legislation before City Council on Nov. 3 to provide a donation to the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank, following Summit County’s lead.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture warned this week that there wouldn't be money available to fund SNAP as of Nov. 1.
