PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake County Board of Commissioners has approved an $18,700 agreement with the United Way of Lake County to provide emergency funding to local food pantries as officials prepare for a possible suspension of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
The money comes from the county’s Community Development Block Grant Program and more funding will be allocated as needed, Commissioner John Plecnik said.
The partnership will help distribute aid to food pantries and community organizations countywide to support residents affected by the potential disruption.
“Our Board acted swiftly to ensure no family in Lake County goes hungry during this period of uncertainty,” Board President Richard J. Regovich said.
SNAP currently supports 17,141 Lake County residents
