BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

Birmingham fire officials are concerned about the toxic smoke from a massive fire Friday morning.

Officials are warning people to stay away from this area.

WVTM 13 First Warning Meteorologist Stephanie Walker showed that there are areas near the fire that reached the unhealthy category Friday morning. She saw that some of the quality had gotten better as the morning progressed.

"Anytime you have a fire of this magnitude, there are toxins. That's why we encourage people to stay away," Lt. Catina Williams with Birmingham Fire said.

Drivers passing through the smoke while driving through Birmingham roads noticed hazy skies, and could smell the smoke. Some people told WVTM 13 that their eyes were burning and itching as they passed.
